Danny
Cowgill – Head Coach
Coach Cowgill is a 1992 graduate of Nease High School. While at Nease, he played Inside Linebacker and Running Back for Head Coach Chuck Walker and was a team captain and leader. From Nease, he went on to become a four-year starter at Lenoir-Rhyne (NC) College. After graduating, he coached two years at Interlachen High School in Florida, and then went to the State University of New York at Canton where he was hand-picked as defensive coordinator by former Buffalo Bills head coach Lou Saban. After a successful tenure in college coaching under Saban, Cowgill accepted an assistant coaching position at St. Augustine High School in 2000, seizing an opportunity to return to his native St. Johns County and to high school football. While at St. Augustine, Cowgill was instrumental in aiding the Yellow Jackets to the State Championship game and a state runner-up finish in 2001. In 2003, Coach Cowgill came home to Nease accepting a position as Defensive Coordinator and Strength and Conditioning coach. This season marks his seventh year at Nease, and his second year as Head Coach. He credits Coach Walker with giving him a life-changing piece of advice: “Danny, find something you love to do...Commit yourself to it...and you’ll never work a day in your life.” As a Nease Football family, we honor Coach Cowgill. His dedication and passion for serving his players, school, coaches, and community proves he took Coach Walker’s advice to heart. He is married to the former Ms. Sara Frilling, also a Nease graduate, and they have one son, Will.
